River Island closes West Bromwich store

High street fashion retailer River Island has closed its store in West Bromwich, dealing yet another blow to the struggling town centre.

Bosses say the branch at Queen's Square Shopping Centre shut down due to the lease expiring. But they are not saying whether the store will reopen anywhere else in the town.

River Island is the latest high street name to disappear from West Bromwich town centre.

In May, WHSmith closed its doors, after 35 years in the town. All seven staff were given the opportunity to redeploy to other shops.

And last month the largest Post Office closed down unexpectedly, leaving residents bewildered and frustrated. The Post Office in High Street next to the large Morrisons was closed suddenly.
