Plans for the latest phase of a multi-million traffic busting scheme to ease congestion and boost trade in Brierley Hill High Street have been unveiled. New parking bays and loading bays will be installed.

They form part of wider £27 million government-backed scheme approved almost six years ago. But they were delayed for council officials to source more cash for regeneration in the town.

This wider scheme included the high street bypass road known as Venture Way and the Waterfront Way link opened back in 2008.

But Dudley Council has been forced to kick-start this final stage incorporating parking and loading zones in High Street in order to guarantee it can use Government money to pay for the works.

Originally, parking and loading bays were going to stretch down the westerly side of the road adjacent to Brierley Hill Police Station.

The new proposals, which go before Brierley Hill Area Committee on Thursday, reveal plans to have two bays on each side between the junctions of Moor Street and Level Street.

New bus stops and traffic lights have already been installed as part an earlier phase of the improvements.
