A man was shot at a pub in the Black Country in an attack in the early hours of today.

A police cordon was today in place around the Prince Albert pub in Sams Lane, West Bromwich, after the shooting, at around 1.15am.

The 32-year-old was taken to hospital in a serious condition but was stabilised by around 10am.

Nearby residents said they believe a car pulled up outside and the gunman got out to shoot the man, who was inside.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Deb Edmonds said forensic teams were on the scene to search for evidence, and said enquiries in the surrounding neighbourhoods would continue throughout the day.

One resident of Sams Lane, who did not wish to be named, said he had awoken this morning to see the pub had been cordoned off.

"I don't know much about what happened - I heard a car had pulled up outside in the early hours of this morning, someone ran in and shot someone," he said.

West Midlands Ambulance Services spokesman John Hawker said an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and a doctor attended.
