Rival football fans have appeared in court charged with violent disorder following a Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers. The nine men are accused of taking part in a huge pub fight.

They were allegedly part of a group of around 40 that descended on the Wagon and Horses pub in Halfords Lane, near The Hawthorns.

Colette Orton, prosecuting, told Birmingham Magistrates Court that violence erupted on April 14. She said there was "large scale disorder involving weapons and bottles being thrown".

Lee Foreman, aged 26, of Shepherds Bush, London, and Jason King, 42, of Hayes, Middlesex, both denied violent disorder. Dominic Mallin, aged 18, of Wellsbourne Drive, Coseley also denied violent disorder.

Paul Davies, aged 22, of Wootton Close, Woodcross, Wolverhampton, Benjamin Malpass, 19, of Barlow Road, Wednesbury, Stuart Perkins, 18, of Moor Street, Wednesbury, brothers Ashley Ward, 19 and Kevin Ward, 20, both of Carisbrooke Road, Wednesbury, and a 17-year-old from Dudley, gave no indication of plea.

Magistrates bailed the men until August 6.
