Prison officers found cannabis hidden in the heels of a pair of trainers sent to an inmate at Drake Hall woman's prison near Stafford, a court has heard.

False compartments had been hollowed out in the heels of the brand new trainers destined for Adele Carney. Mr Pat Sullivan, prosecuting, said inside the hollows was 4.74g of cannabis worth around £50.

Phone traffic between Carney and her boyfriend, Dale Wheat led to his arrest. His DNA was found inside the false compartments.

Wheat, aged 23, of Windermere Avenue, Warrington, who admitted a charge of attempted to supply cannabis, was given a 12-month community order with 90 hours unpaid community work.
