Three men in Cannock were hit by a car today – which fled the scene leaving at least one in a critical condition.

A hunt is under way for a red Ford Ka after it mounted the pavement and hit the men as they walked along Walsall Road, at around 1.50am.

All three were left injured in the crash near the junction with St John's Road with one man in his 40s left in a serious condition in hospital after being pushed into a hoarding.

He was treated at the scene for head, arm and chest injuries and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

An 18-year-old suffered legs injuries and was taken to the same hospital, and a man in his late 20s was taken to University Hospital of North Staffordshire with leg injuries.

The accident happened near Rising Brook car and van hire firm.

Insp Tim Nicklin said: "At about 1.48am today a road traffic collision occurred along Walsall Road, Cannock, near the junction with St John's Road.

"A red Ford KA motor vehicle was travelling along Walsall Road from the direction of Cannock town centre towards Bridgtown.

"The vehicle left the carriageway went onto the pavement and collided with three male pedestrians. The driver fled the scene."
