The Labour group on Cannock Chase Council today took full control of the authority as the party also celebrated winning control of two other West Midland councils.

Labour also became the largest party on Walsall Council and stripped the Tories of their majority at Wyre Forest District Council. The Conservatives were ousted from Dudley

Council after losing 13 seats – 12 to Labour and one to the Greens. Birmingham City Council has also gone back to Labour after a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition was toppled.

Cannock's Labour council leader George Adamson said: "We've taken seats from all of the other parties. People do not like this government, with its NHS reforms and tax cuts for the rich."

The controlling Labour group in Cannock Chase has been ruling as a minority administration for the past year but faced having its decisions vetoed by opposition parties.
