Work is set to get under way on a million-pound development of more than 300 homes on former industrial land in the Black Country next month, developers announced today.

The houses and apartments would be built on land off Tansey Green Road in Pensnett, Dudley. The plans have been in the pipeline for around five years and landowners London &

Cambridge Properties (LCP) is working with Taylor Wimpey West Midlands on the scheme but they are waiting for the final approval needed before work can start.

It is hoped that work will get under way on the scheme, called Himley View, for 335 homes, during April.

Outline planning permission was granted for the scheme two years ago after plans were submitted by LCP.

LCP?marketing director Margaret Hopkins said: "We have sufficient land to meet the future expansion re-quirements of the Pensnett Estate.

"This is surplus land which is perfect for housing and can be regenerated for a new community to meet the housing needs and aspirations of local people.

"Having spent the last five years working closely with the planning department, I am delighted to see this coming to fruition.

"With the choice of homes planned, from starter homes to large detached family houses, we believe this development will appeal to a wide range of people."

Managing director of Taylor Wimpey West Midlands John Symons said: "In partnership with LCP, Himley View has been a long time in the planning.

"I'm confident it will have a positive and stimulating effect on the local community, providing much-needed homes in a pleasant and well-connected setting."

Pensnett councillors have previously praised the development plans, which they say will help to regenerate the area.

Councillor Sue Greenway has said: "I am happy with the scheme and think it will be really good for Pensnett."

Prices are expected to range from about £100,000 to around £300,000.
