A 23-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a mother shot dead at her Staffordshire home.

The unnamed man, accused of killing 49-year-old Susan Gray from Stafford, will appear before magistrates next week.

The charge comes more than four months after Mrs Gray was found dead at her quiet terraced house in Oxford Gardens, off Corporation Street, on October 27 last year.

Detectives from Staffordshire Police's Major Investigation Department immediately launched a murder inquiry.

Officers then spent days carrying out door-to-door inquiries while friends and devastated neighbours left floral tributes at the scene.

Mrs Gray was a registered childminder and it is believed she has a son and a daughter.

She was also a listed childminder with Staffordshire County Council and on a childcare website, she listed her pick up school as John Wheeldon Primary School, only a few feet away from her house.

The suspect, who is from Stafford, is due to appear at Cannock Magistrates on Monday.
