More than 300 people have applied for 50 jobs at a new buffet restaurant opening in Walsall, bosses announced today.
About £1 million is being spent revamping the former Chicago Rock Cafe, in Lichfield Street, into a 300-seat restaurant.
Owner Mandeep Singh Kohli said he had been overwhelmed by the response and that recruitment is due to take place this week.
Fiesta World Buffet and Bar will open in March.
It will have 15 chefs as well as dozens of waiting staff and will serve Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Indian and English dishes. "Since advertising the jobs, we have had more than 300 CVs," said Mr Singh Kohli, who is from Walsall and attended the town's Queen Mary's Grammar School.
Regeneration bosses have worked with Mr Singh Kohli to help bring the new business into the town. Councillor Adrian Andrew said: "It is great that businesses are showing this confidence in Walsall."
