The developers behind a controversial play area in Cannock which councillors from the planning committee ruled will have to go have spoken out against the decision.

Members of Cannock Chase Council have ruled the play site at the heart of the Park Farm residential estate, between Peregrine Way and Pheasant Way, must go. After hearing from residents before a planning meeting about how youths use the area for anti-social behaviour, the committee ruled that the site causes too much trouble for local residents.

Since the meeting some people living by the site said they do not know what all the fuss is about.

Today, Tim Brickley, technical director for Persimmon Homes West Midlands said he was disappointed with the council's decision and will be speaking to planning chiefs about what can be done to keep everyone involved happy.

He said: "We are disappointed that Cannock Chase Council has refused the retrospective planning permission for the play area at Park Farm Estate and will be in further discussions with them regarding the site.

"Persimmon Homes continue to work closely with the council and the local community to seek a satisfactory conclusion for all concerned."

Councillors last week said the site has caused endless misery for people living nearby as the area is open 24 hours a day.

Neil Owens, who lives in Peregrine Way, told the council 33 residents had signed a petition saying the play area made their lives hell, and there were 34 letters of objection. Mr Owens said residents were woken by people singing and drinking.

Hawks Green councillor John Bernard also said footballs hitting a gate made people's lives a misery.
