Student's body found in river

A missing student from the Midlands has been found dead in a river in Manchester.

Gurdeep Hayer, from West Bromwich, had not been seen since he went out with his friends in Manchester on New Year's Day after spending his Christmas break at his family's Nelson Street home.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the 20-year-old's body was found in the river near York Street in Manchester city centre on Monday.
