As well as presents and cards marking his 49th birthday, the father-of-two from Willenhall was told he will be a torchbearer for the 2012 Olympics.
The Olympic flame will travel through the West Midlands as it makes its way to London next year. Mr Marston, of Essington Road, in New Invention, said: "It's just brilliant.
"I knew I was nominated but I never actually thought I would be selected. It's been like a double celebration as the news came through on my birthday."
Mr Marston has raised more than £100,000 after years of epic charity fundraising through ultra marathons.
Meanwhile, it emerged today charity marathon hero 'Blind' Dave Heeley will not be one of the torchbearers The 54-year-old, of Oak road, West Bromwich, said he was "gutted" after hearing he had been rejected.
