Charity marathon runner 'Blind Dave' Heeley is to be Sandwell's next honorary freeman.
Dave, who is 54 and lives in West Bromwich, will be the borough's 11th honorary freeman. The ceremony is likely to take place next spring.
The news was announced by Sandwell's council leader, Councillor Darren Cooper.
He said: "I am sure he will be a great ambassador for the borough. Over the years he has done so much for so many others with his charity runs."
Dave, who lives in Oak Road, said: "I was absolutely stunned when I was first told."
