As terrified shoppers look on, David Millington can be seen storming through the doors of Morrisons in Pendeford in an enraged pursuit of Andrew Osbourne.
In one image, the 37-year-old attacker is shown brandishing the hockey stick, a blade attached, in one hand and a knife and makeshift shield in another as he enters the Blaydon Road store.
Millington then runs past two stunned customers as they are in the middle of paying for goods at the shop's self-service checkouts. He chased Mr Osbourne, who managed to escape into a door next to the pharmacy.
But Millington went on to wound store manager Michael Walsh as the 40-year-old was trying to apprehend him during the drama at about 10.35am on March 16.
It's understood that Millington, of Ryefield, Pendeford, had gone to the store because he held a 30-year grudge against Mr Osbourne from their days as school children in Pendeford.
