An aluminium casting business in the West Midlands has won the contract to fashion components for the London 2012 Olympic Torch.

Wednesbury-based Alucast has been selected by The Premier Group, the London 2012 Torch manufacturer which is based in Coventry, to produce cast components for the torch. The Premier Group were themselves appointed by LOCOG, the London 2012 Organising Committee.

Organisers have arranged for companies to make 8,000 triangular gold-coloured, aluminium, torches – one for each of the torch bearers taking part in the 70-day relay to the opening ceremony.

Managing director Tony Sartorius said: "We have been selected. I think it's really good news for manufacturing in the Black Country and a real boost for the area."
