Since the Anglo-Saxon gold first went on display on Saturday, it has generated extreme interest amongst people in Washington DC and beyond. It is currently on show for four months at the National Geographic Museum – a prime location – and the treasure is proving extremely popular with history lovers on the other side of the pond.
In the first three days alone, more than 1,300 visitors went through the doors of the museum to see the treasure. Museum chiefs say it represents the biggest attraction since the 3rd Century BC Chinese Terracotta Warriors display in 2009 which was eventually seen by 280,000 people over four and a half months.
