Ambulance staff who helped treat people caught up in the riots which hit the region this summer have been honoured at an awards ceremony.

More than 70 staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service were given commendations and awards at an event in Birmingham.

All the staff were involved with dealing with the riots as they developed in the Midlands – first in Birmingham before spreading to Wolverhampton and West Bromwich.

Commanders, communication teams, and ambulance control staff were given awards in front of around 200 family members and dignitaries.

Paramedics sent to treat people injured on the streets were also marked out for special recognition.
