Customers visiting a new £27 million Tesco superstore will be the first in the West Midlands to be able to get a haircut, spray tan and manicures when they go to do their weekly shop.

The supermarket giant has revealed that the Tesco Extra store near Burnt Tree Island in Dudley, which will employ more than 300 people, will be the first in the region to include a beauty salon.

The salon will employ a total of seven people – on top of the 80 new jobs created in the rest of the building.

The 100,000sq ft superstore, set to open on October 17, will also house a range of beauty counters along the lines of those on offer at Debenham's stores, stocking premium brands and a "test and play" area to try them out. There will also be a petrol station, which is expected to open in January.

The petrol station will take the place of the temporary Tesco currently on the site, which will close when the main store opens.

The hair and beauty centre, to be run by Regis Salons, will operate without appointments and will be open from 10am to 8pm Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
