The owner of B&Q and Screwfix said today it was planning to create 1,200 jobs in the coming months as part of a major investment in the UK.
As it announced a big hike in its half year profits, the Kingfisher group said it planned to open 40 new, smaller, Screwfix stores by the end of January next year, creating 1,000 of the new jobs.
Screwfix, which caters for the building trade, currently employs 600 people at its 544,000 sq ft distribution warehouse on Stafford's ProLogis Park.
The firm currently has bases across the West Midlands, including sites in Fernside Road, Willenhall and Birmingham New Road, Dudley. Another 230 jobs will come from the conversion of 29 former Focus stores into B&Qs.
