Road repaired after 30-year campaign

Residents are celebrating as £17,000 improvement works are nearing completion on a Wednesbury road following a 30-year campaign.
The stretch of Parkdale Avenue in Wednesbury was created when homes were built decades ago but the council never adopted the road, meaning it was under no obligation to carry out repairs.
It was left to fall into disrepair, but now the stretch is getting new paths, new kerbs and extra drainage, work that is expected to be finished at some stage this week.
One of the campaigners is grandfather-of-one Frank Bullock who has been putting pressure on the council to take action since the 1970s.
Mr Bullock enlisted the help of Wednesbury councillors and even wrote to Betty Boothroyd, the first speaker of the House of Commons.
The work, which is costing £17,000, was finally agreed after residents of Parkdale Avenue, Churchfields Road and Vicarage Road submitted a petition to the borough's safety boss, Councillor Derek Rowley in December.
