Quiz show contestant Kevin Cartwright was today celebrating after becoming an instant millionaire – all on the throw of a ball on a roulette wheel.

Millions watched the 44-year-old, who lives in a modest flat in Hannaford Way, Cannock, win the fortune on ITV's new live show Red and Black, hosted by Ant and Dec.

Kevin is a carer for his partner Nicola Dawson, who has the rare blood disorder hyperlipidaemia and needs full-time help, and today revealed he plans to use his winnings to treat her incurable blood disease.

He said: "We have had a really rough time. Nicola is in a lot of pain. I have found a revolutionary treatment in America. It won't cure her but will give her a better quality of life.

"I am in complete shock, I still can't believe it happened. I watched the ball land and I thought that was it. I couldn't focus, I thought I was in a dream, I'm shocked."
