A large grass fire on a canal embankment threatened homes in the Black Country and engulfed fences and a shed as it raged today.

A large grass fire on a canal embankment threatened homes in the Black Country and engulfed fences and a shed as it raged today.

The blaze in Smethwick was fought by 30 firefighters at its height, who managed to stop it spreading to nearby houses.
