Hundreds of companies across the West Midlands have won millions of pounds of work on the London Olympics project, new figures released today reveal.

The region had a target of winning around £400 million from the Games, but has smashed that with a total so far of £515 million.

The average value of each deal is estimated at around £100,000 and work on the Olympics has proved vital to keeping some companies alive.

Across Staffordshire and the Black Country businesses have supplied everything from concrete and steel for building work to training services and fire safety equipment. The list of suppliers ranges from the small to the multi-national.

It has been headed by Wolverhampton construction giant Carillion which won the contract to build the £400 million Olympic Media Centre, from which journalists and TV and radio teams will broadcast images and results to an audience of billions around the world.
