Police today renewed an appeal for information after a "ferocious attack" that took place in Willenhall.

A thug armed with a spiked carpet gripper attacked a man before stealing his mobile phone and gold jewellery worth more than £800.

The 32-year-old victim was repeatedly hit in the face and body during the assault and was struck across the face with the metal carpet gripper.

He was left with "nasty" cuts and bruises. The attack happened a little after midnight on Sunday at a house in Stroud Avenue.

Detectives said the victim had been befriended by another man that evening who then introduced him to the attacker.

Dc Deb Dace from Force CID said the culprit gave the nickname of Manby but that may be false.

The victim had two heavy gold rings and his mobile phone stolen in the incident.

The attacker is described as a white man in his 30s, about 6ft and stocky with short shaved hair that was blonde or brown in colour.

He was clean shaven and had a tattoo on his lower back which looked like wings.

He stole a Nokia mobile phone, a 9ct gold saddle ring worth £415 and a 9ct gold buckle ring worth £395.

Anyone with information should call CID at Bloxwich on 0345 113 5000.
