Extra parking created to stop car boot sale chaos
Almost 400 extra car parking spaces have been created at a Staffordshire car boot sale after two-mile tailbacks formed and clogged up the village.
Almost 400 extra car parking spaces have been created at a Staffordshire car boot sale after two-mile tailbacks formed and clogged up the village.
Drivers wanting to get to the Bognop Road site in Essington dodged new 50p parking charges by leaving their vehicles along the road last week.
Cars queued on the A460 Cannock Road all the way to the junction of the M54 motorway. Police issued fines, towed away a vehicle and closed the car boot sale for 40 minutes to alleviate the chaos last Sunday.
But yesterday bosses created an extra 380 spaces and coned off Bognop Road, meaning there was no repeat of last Sunday's chaotic scenes.
Owner Kevin Brown, of Midland Car Boot Sales, said: "We completely coned all down the road and we've also got an overspill car park opened up.
"We've cleared all round the fields to make sure there's room for car parking and removed soil from the long grass and we've made room for an extra 380 cars with the overspill car park.
"There were no traffic problems or congestion."
