Just over half of the residents living along the proposed High Speed Rail route in Birmingham are in favour of the scheme – in direct opposition to authorities in Staffordshire.
Around 61 per cent of respondents to Birmingham City Council's questionnaire said they were supportive of the proposals to bring High Speed Rail to the city.
The results are in contrast to Staffordshire County Council, which is opposing the scheme, claiming that all the benefits will be concentrated in Birmingham and that the line will cause environmental damage.
Birmingham City Council sent thousands of questionnaires to properties within half a mile of the proposed route. Of those who responded, 53 per cent fully supported the proposals, saying they believed High Speed Rail would create new jobs and be beneficial for the local economy.
A further eight per cent supported the scheme but made comments on specific elements.
