The behaviour of school pupils in Wolverhampton is among the best in the region, despite a slight dip in the city's latest Ofsted rating.

New government figures revealed today show how many primary, secondary and special schools were rated as outstanding, good, satisfactory or inadequate for pupils' behaviour during 2010 by Ofsted.

Nationally, 1,764 schools, or eight per cent, were rated satisfactory or inadequate for behaviour out of 21,347.

In Wolverhampton, 93.1 per cent of schools were rated good or outstanding for behaviour in 2010 — slightly down from 95.2 per cent in 2009.

However, the city's pupils fared well against other councils in the West Midlands, finishing joint top alongside Herefordshire.

In Walsall, the figure was 86.6 per cent — down from 87.6 per cent.

Well-behaved pupils in Sandwell helped it jump slightly to 91.5 per cent, up from 90.7 in 2009.

In Staffordshire, 92.8 per cent of schools were rated good or outstanding for pupils' behaviour — up from 92 per cent.

In Dudley, it was 90.7 per cent — up from 87.3 per cent the year before.
