Rail passengers in the Black Country were today caught up in delays after a signalling fault caused rail problems.

The fault at Coseley station brought delays of up to 20 minutes between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street.

The technical fault affected a number of services including Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry, London Midland and Virgin Trains. Some trains were being diverted around Wolverhampton.

Network Rail spokeswoman Mavis Choong said: "The problems were reported to us not long after 5am. We had engineers down there and it was a technical problem with the equipment. The problems did lead to minor delays."

She added: "The problem was sorted out by 6.54am. Everything is now back to normal."

One commuter who was at New Street said there were no messages telling people about the problems.
