Described as a boy who was loved by all, 13-year-old Connor Allen passed away at his Bowes Drive home in Chadsmoor.
Connor, who was a pupil at Cannock Chase High School for around a month, had previously studied at Chase Terrace Technology College.
Stuart Jones, headteacher of the college, said: "Our thoughts are with Connor's family at this time. Connor was a lovely boy and his sudden death is a great shock to all of us."
The headteacher of Cannock Chase High School, Barrie Scott, said Connor was a "delightful, enthusiastic boy and a ray of sunshine in class." Mr Scott said Connor had already begun to settle into his school life well and had made new friends.

Ashley Rhodes wrote: "You are a star, you always had a smile, and you will be very sadly missed.
"Hope you take care whereever you may be. You will always be in my thoughts. We had some good times mate. Love and hugs."
Charlotte O'Grady said: "I just can't believe you are gone Connor it seems like only yesterday I saw your smile. We will remember you always. You were taken way too soon. Rest in peace." Ritchie Franklin said: "Connor, the soundest kid I've ever met. You'll always be remembered, your smile and laugh will never be forgotten. Our times together were funny whilst they lasted. Shed a tear or two tonight, can't believe you've gone."
An air ambulance flew to the scene on Monday, but was not in time to save Connor, who was pronounced dead at his home.
The helicopter landed on playing field in Wright's Avenue, which form part of Redhill Community Primary School.
Staffordshire Police said officers will be compiling a report for the South Staffordshire coroner following the sudden death and a post mortem will be carried out in due course.
