A bar in Wolverhampton city centre has been forced to close its kitchen because of rats.

Varsity in Stafford Street will not be allowed to serve food following a successful court order application by Wolverhampton City Council.

Environmental health officers visited the bar last week after an anonymous tip-off and found droppings in the kitchen area. A rat was also seen.

Wolverhampton Magistrates Court heard yesterday that staff at Varsity voluntarily closed the kitchen after the initial find and that it had remained closed since.

District Judge Graham Wilkinson granted a hygiene emergency prohibition order.
