Former landlady Kathleen Radford, aged 72, was struck yards from her home in Wimblebury, near Cannock.
She had spoken of fearing someone would be killed on John Road. Her son, David, 31, said speeds of more than 70mph were reached.
Her Yorkshire terrier was hit by a lorry at the same spot eight years ago.
Villagers are collecting to buy a bench in memory of Mrs Radford, who ran the Double M Social Club, Glover Street, with late husband Derek for 20 years.
Mrs Radford, of St Paul's Road, died after the accident at 8.36pm last Wednesday. A pedestrian crossing is to be installed this year after a long campaign by residents.
Today daughter Angela Hogan, 54, said: "She always said someone would be killed on that road one day."
David, owner of Radford Aston Electricals, John Road, said a crossing would not stop further accidents.
Illuminated signs showing speeds only encouraged motorists to drive faster, he said. "They use it to see how fast they can go — anything above 70mph shows up as 99mph — and this is a 30mph zone. Only traffic-calming measures can stop those sort of speeds."
