A medical bag containing dangerous drugs was stolen in a burglary at a home in the Black Country, police revealed today.

Thieves broke into the house in Dursley Close, Willenhall, stealing the keys to a black Vauxhall Astra.

The car parked outside the house contained the medical bag. Police said today the thieves escaped in the Astra and they also warned people that the stolen drugs were highly dangerous and should not be taken. They are used to stop blood clotting and could cause haemorrhaging.

The medication is an anticoagulent called Clexane — an anti-platelet drug.

The burglary took place some time between 11.30pm last Wednesday and 8am on Thursday.

The Express & Star revealed last week that burglars hunting for people's car keys are increasingly targeting homes in and around Wolverhampton.

The area is now one of the worst in the country for raids of that type.

Vehicle security firm Tracker said cars worth £3.4 million had been stolen nationwide in the second quarter of the year.

Audi, Mercedes and BMWs are still thieves' favourite targets, according to the firm.

And houses with more than one high-value car are most at risk.

The security firm said Wolverhampton was now the 10th worst hit area in the country.

It comes behind Birmingham in fifth place and London at the top of the table.

Portobello, Wednesfield and Bradley have all experienced car key burglaries recently.

Elsewhere in the region, a 75-year-old man was shoved to the floor and his 78-year-old wife slapped around the face by two men in Cradley Heath in August.

The hoodie-wearing burglars forced their way into the couple's home at 10pm and demanded they hand over the keys to their silver Mercedes.

Today, police investigating the Dursley Close raid appealed for help from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area.

Anyone with any information is asked to telephone CID officers at Bloxwich police station on 0345 113 5000.
