Arrest over suspected Stafford rape

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident in the Highfields area of Stafford.

Police were called to a report of an alleged rape about 3am on Saturday by a bridge near to the Highfields Social Club in Barnes Road.

Officers attended and cordoned off the scene while carrying out inquiries.

Following an investigation, police said the alleged rape did not take place at that location but in a house by someone known to the 17-year-old female victim.

The 18-year-old has been bailed pending further inquiries.
