?A Walsall teenager who was left fighting for his life after a street brawl is still in a critical condition but showing "small signs of improvement", his family said today.

Kearon McNicol, aged 18, of Bloxwich, was left in critical care after violence flared in Ryle Street, Blakenall Heath, over the weekend.

His aunt, May Jackson, aged 49, of Hall Street, Birchills, said worried family members have been by his bedside since he was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mrs Jackson said: "A lot of it depends on Kearon now and for him to keep fighting.

"We've all got to try and lift him up.

"He's still critical but hopefully there are some small signs of improvement."

She added: "He's a very popular lad and there's been such an amazing amount of support for him."

Former Shelfield Academy student Kearon underwent a five hour operation to relieve the swelling on his brain and was put into an induced coma.

Robert Bagnall, aged 24, of Wye Road, Bloxwich, was remanded in custody by Walsall magistrates yesterday charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Any witnesses are urged to call the West Midlands Police on 0345 113 5000 ext 78896200.
