A bus driver was shot in the arm by a pellet gun as he was driving a packed bus from Cannock to Wolverhampton.
The driver swerved as he was shot in the arm close to Featherstone but managed to control the vehicle and bring it to a safe stop, navigating it back to the depot.
He was shot while driving an Arriva Number 70 service bus which runs from Cannock to Wolverhampton.
He had been driving down the Cannock Road and had just driven past the motorway island close to Westcroft when he was shot at by someone who was hiding in the woods.
The driver was shot last Thursday afternoon as he was driving to the city with a bus packed full of passengers.
He managed to drive the bus back to the depot in Longford, Cannock and didn't require hospital treatment.
Keith Myatt, spokesman for Arriva, said: "This really was a despicable act and could have resulted in far more serious consequences.
"There were a number of passengers on the bus at the time.
"Fortunately the driver managed to keep control of the bus despite being shot in the arm.
"He managed to drive the bus back to the depot.
"Fortunately he hadn't received a serious injury to his arm.
"But it was a real shock to him because he knows how serious the consequences could have been.
"It was a dangerous act of stupidity."
