Willenhall Leisure Centre to shut on August 27

Willenhall's doomed leisure centre will close on August 27, council chiefs revealed today.

The Bath Street centre will be boarded up, with no plans yet for whether it will be bulldozed or transformed for another use.

It was also revealed today how a report on its future and that of Walsall's five other leisure centres, which could outline plans to shut even more as part of a cost-cutting bid, will be published in October.

Future options could include building one "jewel" leisure centre in Walsall or handing the existing facilities over to private control.
