Fairground rides, monster truck displays and scorching temperatures helped make Wolverhampton's annual city show a roaring success.

Up to 90,000 people descended on West Park on Saturday and Sunday for the fun-filled extravaganza.

And they were treated to perfect weather for the family day out.

This year's event featured a parachute display, motorbike stunts, sheepdog demonstrations and Punch and Judy shows.

Visitors to the park also enjoyed medieval jousting, stalls, a craft fair, model boats, wood turning displays and a flower show.

And there was the fun of the fair for those wanting to get their adrenalin running.

Play group volunteer Anna Billingham, 32, went to the park with her daughter Amelia, four, and husband Ian, 36. She said: "This is the second time I've been to the city show. We've had a great time.

"Amelia loves the rides at the fairground and there is so much to look at."

Mrs Billingham, of Beechwood Ave, Wednesfield, added: "There is a great atmosphere and the weather has certainly helped."

Jenny Edwards, 39, of Willenhall, who works as a cook at a children's centre, was enjoying the warm weather at the park with her family and friends.

She said: "We've had a great time. My son Joshua has been on all the fairground rides.

"We come to the city show every year. It's a great day out and it's free."

Her friend Lisa Dixon, of Benton Close, Willenhall, was at the event for the first time and said she was impressed by all the different sights.

She said: "I've never been to this event before. It was Jenny who persuaded me to come.

"My boys have had a fantastic time."

Mrs Dixon, a street warden with Cannock Chase Council, added: "There is just so much to do and see."

Mayor of Wolverhampton Councillor Malcolm Gwinnett said: "It was probably the best city show we've ever had.

"We saw record crowds over the weekend.

"Everyone thought it was brilliant.

"We think we had between 85,000-90,000 visitors over the two days.

"I think without the weather it would not have gone so well.

"The main attraction was the main arena as it always is. People enjoyed watching the monster trucks," he added.
