A public inquiry will be held into plans to create a new slip road from the M54 near Wolverhampton.

More than 25 people including residents in Coven, South Staffordshire, have objected to the proposal for the road, which will connect the motorway with the planned i54 business park in Fordhouses, to provide access for lorries.

But there are concerns about noise, pollution and vibration from traffic.

Work is under way to install traffic lights on the roundabout of the existing slip roads at junction 2 of the motorway near Coven.

A project to replace the Vine Island island with traffic lights is subject to spending reviews by the government.

The work is aimed at making the i54 more attractive to developers in the hope that it will bring 6,000 jobs to Wolverhampton.
