Since he was a teenager stacking shelves at Safeway in Sedgley, Luke Whitehouse has had one dream - to be a popstar.

Now the 21-year-old has been picked from hundreds of hopefuls to help form the new boyband Inju5tice.

Luke, from Sedgley, was a pupil at Alder Coppice Primary and Dormston High School where he admits his playground nicknames were 'twig', 'newt' and 'dinosaur head'.

But now the blonde singer is hoping his band is going to hit the charts and bring him fame and fortune.

Their debut album World's Most Wanted is in shops now and Luke says it finally hit him when he held the CD in his hands for the first time.

"It is unreal being in a boy band as it is something I never thought would happen - it is like a dream," he says.

"We have already started to tour and the single is coming out in July, and if it charts that will be amazing.

"I hope we build up a fan base and just get bigger and bigger."

Last week the band had their launch at The Cobden Club in London and performed to a packed-out audience filled with friends, family and new fans. Among the songs they performed were, Everytime You Tell Me Goodbye, These Tears, Riding the Storm and Mr Heartbreaker, which features mainly Luke's voice.

Luke, who has two younger sisters Lucy and Chloe, says he applied to be in the band through an advert he saw in a magazine.

However, he has his feet firmly on the ground as he decided before becoming a popstar he would get a degree.

His parents Heather, a council worker, and Peter, director of a car parts company, have said they will support him whatever he does.

"I went to Nottingham Trent University for three years where I did a business degree," he says.

"Now I'm doing the complete opposite, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I know I've got my degree behind me so I can use that whenever I want to." Inju5tice is the brainchild of record producer and songwriter Ian Levine who has worked solely on this project for the last year.

In the past Ian has been responsible for producing songs for Take That and Blue and the band has spent the last 10 weeks recording their album.

Early reviews mark it down as potentially one of 2010s biggest selling albums.

Luke is single but says his favourite date would be spent at Alton Towers and he would like a girlfriend who can join him in eating a chicken tikka masala while watching his favourite film Home Alone 2.

"There were 500 people who applied. I never thought I would make the final eight, never mind getting into the band," says Luke. "I had done a few auditions before but didn't get them, however I didn't give up on my dream.".

As Inju5tice embark on their national tour plans are in place for them to perform at the two schools Luke attended.

"I love being from the Black Country — I'm very proud of it and hate people that are embarrassed of where they come from," he says.
