Mandy amazed by Gok Wan's makeover

As far as titles go, being picked out as the worst dressed in West Bromwich is not one most would want to hang on to.

And when 36-year-old Mandy Dosanjh was hand-picked by fashion guru Gok Wan as the one most in need of a makeover out of all the Black Country applicants for his show Gok's Fashion Fix, she could not help but feel insulted.

But after undergoing the Gok experience, Mandy now says it has totally changed her life and self-image.

The NHS accountant from Chuckery, Walsall, said: "Originally I sent in my application and was told to take 30 items of clothing for Gok to see in West Bromwich.

"He went round every single woman, looking through their clothes and he said out of all my clothes, if it was up to him, he would throw away everything apart from one jacket, which I didn't really wear that much.

"He said they were uninspiring and unflattering, and walked off.

"I was gobsmacked because I didn't think it was that bad."

Then Mandy had another reason to be gobsmacked when Gok chose her wardrobe — which he described as more akin to a student than a successful working mother, to take part in the show and spent seven days filming in London and at her Walsall home.

Mandy, who is married to husband Suki, also 36, and lives with him and their two children Tarun, 12, and Kieron, 10, in Walhouse Road, was whisked off to London so Gok could find her a 24-piece wardrobe which would accentuate her curves and give her a new-found confidence.

"When I saw myself I was completely gobsmacked, it was amazing," she said.

"I just never thought I would look so different and didn't know what to say, it was surreal."

And she said that she had had nothing but compliments since the makeover, and will certainly not be looking back, adding: "It's completely changed the way I dress.

"The things Gok told me will stay with me for life, I will be shopping a lot more wisely in future.

"It's not about fashion, it's about what looks good on you."
