A four-star hotel and a cash-and-carry will be built on the site of the former HP sauce factory in Birmingham.

City council planners approved the application by West Bromwich businessman Tony Deep Wouhra yesterday.

Work is expected to start imminently and will take an estimated 14 months to complete. The development is expected to include a 14-storey Hilton hotel and huge glass-fronted cash-and-carry premises, bearing the East End Foods logo.

Meanwhile, plans for a £125 million skyscraper in Birmingham were also approved yesterday. Regal Tower will be Birmingham's tallest skyscraper and will include include a luxury hotel, apartments.

Chiefs approved plans for the tower on the corner of Broad Street and Sheepcote Street.
