A swan has been shot dead with an air rifle at a Staffordshire nature spot.

The dead swan was found by a villager out walking at the beauty spot near Love Lane, Great Wyrley, on Friday.

Members of the Stafford-based Rural Policing Liaison Group (RPLG) later collected around 20 air rifle shells scattered nearby.

The swan is believed to have been nesting on eggs, meaning its chicks will also die.
