A major route through West Bromwich will be closed at the weekend. The A41 Birmingham Road will be closed from the M5 Junction 1 traffic Island to the borough boundary close to The Hawthorns for junction works.

A diversion will be in place and delays are expected.

The Birmingham Road and Halfords Lane will be closed between 9pm on Saturday until 4pm the following day, with the road closure stretching around three quarters of a mile.

The work will see old traffic lights replaced and resurfacing carried out. The whole project is expected to cost around £75,000.

Bus services will be affected and the council is recommending companies re-route around the temporary diversion.

Pedestrian access along Birmingham Road remains unaffected.

For the duration of the work traffic vehicles will be diverted via M5 Junction 1 traffic Island, Kenrick Way, Dartmouth Road, Lewisham Road, Middlemore Road, Hollyhead Road and vice-versa.

Access to frontages will be maintained unless it is considered unsafe to do so.
