Contracts have been exchanged over the sale of Willenhall Town FC, but the buyers' identity remained a mystery today.

Talks are expected to take place over the coming weeks between the buyers and club officials to discuss the future of football at Noose Lane.

Mike Allwood, of property specialists Andrew & Ashwell, which is handling the sale, said today: "Contracts were exchanged at the end of last week, but the sale has not fully gone through yet.

"The buyers will sit down with the club soon, but because of confidentiality we cannot say any more at this stage about who is buying the club."

Receivers were brought in at Willenhall Town FC over a £60,000 debt owed to landowner Marstons in May.

The Northern Premier League Division One club was handed a reprieve to allow time to pay back the money but it failed to raise enough cash.

The freehold of the ground was put up for sale and four private bids were tabled before Christmas and Marstons was asked to whittle it down to one buyer
