Jodhpurs, jackets and black velvet riding hats were the dress code of the day as 83 riders joined the Albrighton Hunt for the last meet of the season.

Up to 300 spectators turned out to witness the centuries-old tradition as riders gathered at Whiston Cross, near Albrighton, for Saturday's sporting spectacle.

Sausage rolls and other savouries were passed around the group before they set off for a 20-mile jaunt around the South Staffordshire countryside, led by Master of the Hounds Charlie Sankey.

The weather was wet but the rain did not dampen the spirits of those taking part, who ranged from youngsters on ponies to a number of riders in their 70s.

Hunt secretary Julian Hill, of Tudor Crescent in Penn,Wolverhampton, said: "It was a great day. "The number of people riding with the hunt this season has increased."

The group followed a trail thought Pattingham and Patshull with the help of around 30 hounds.

Between 20-30 enthusiasts followed the riders across country in their cars.
