A new multi-million pound Travelodge will boost employment opportunities in Cannock with up to 100 jobs expected to be created during its construction, it was announced today.
The planned 60-bedroom hotel will form the latest addition to the £20 million Gallan Park development, in Watling Street.
Developers the Gallan Group - who have signed a contract to build the hotel - say more than 100 jobs will be created during the construction of the three-storey hotel, with permanent roles on offer when it opens.
Cannock Chase District Councillor Mark Green, Liberal Democrat representative for South ward, has welcomed the plans which will increase jobs in the town.
"This hotel will bring employment to Cannock, not just during the construction phase but also once it opens," he said.
"It will be in a very convenient location for business users as it is so close to the M54 and M6 and it will bring competition to the other hotels in the town.
"It was a condition of the outline planning permission that there must be good access to the building which does not interfere with traffic flow on the A5 so there shouldn't be any problems."
The hotel will include 9,000 sq ft of new retail units, fronting the busy A5, which are suitable for leisure and retail use.
There will be 40 parking spaces reserved exclusively visitors to these units.ThrivingBirmingham-based property specialists, the Gallan Group, are now waiting for planning permission from Cannock Chase District Council which will allow them to start work on the development.
Director Paul Garry today said Gallan Park was becoming a thriving development which could become a focal point for Cannock as it moves from an industrial economy to a service-led future.
He added: "With traffic flow on this stretch of the A5 in excess of 30,000 vehicles a day, as well as excellent motorway connection, Travelodge has identified it as an ideal location for its new hotel."We are delighted to bring a new employer and service to Cannock and look forward to bringing further exciting new operators to the town."
Planning consent for the Travelodge is expected to be granted by the council's development committee when it meets next month.
