A pensioner is demanding a lamp post placed bizarrely in the centre of her driveway is pulled out after a tradesman reversed into it.

Jean Pinner, aged 68, of Springvale Rise, Parkside, Stafford, claims the lamp post was installed without warning and has led to a crash and a spate of near-misses.

She says the problems reached a climax last week when a builder who had been working at her house drove straight into it, shattering the back of his van.

"It's such a ridiculous place for a lamp post. And now we've had an accident I think it's about time it was shifted," she said.

"The accident made me feel sick because I felt like it was my fault. I can't stand by watching people crash their cars because of my driveway. Big vans can barely get on and off the property.

"I've been to the county council but nothing seems to be done about it."

Mrs Pinner claims other residents are backing her calls for the removal of the lamp post and she is considering putting together a petition to draw attention to her fight.

Staffordshire county council has confirmed that it will be looking into the incident but was not aware of any specific problems. Spokesman Tom Hobbins said: "In the first instance the residents should speak to their county councillor or contact the local community highw
