A South Staffordshire village's only petrol station is to be transformed.
Drivers were today warned Wombourne Service Station, the village's only petrol garage, will close for weeks as part of the project.
A 3,000 sq ft convenience store and forecourt will be built at the School Road site.
A section of car park has been blocked off and Midcounties Co-operative, which runs the station, said the station was likely to close in summer and reopen in November.
A spokesman said: "We have traded there for some time but the premises were becoming cramped and dated. We are excited that as a locally owned business we will be better able to offer a service which will keep trade within the community of Wombourne.
"The new store will be bigger and brighter and enable us to extend the range of products offered to customers.
"We will trade for as long as possible while the works are being carried out but we will have to close for a short period later in the summer to enable the scheme to be completed in November."
Wombourne councillor Mary Bond said: "They got planning permission a while ago and I didn't know whether it would actually happen because of the new Sainsbury's being built in Wombourne, so I am glad it is going ahead.
"It might cause a problem for drivers for a while when it is closed as it is the only petrol station in Wombourne but I suppose there can be no other way they can do it. 0I hope all of the customers return there when it reopens."
