A man has been arrested after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into a group of teenagers, leaving a 17-year-old girl fighting for her life, police said today.
A man has been arrested after a car mounted a pavement and crashed into a group of teenagers, leaving a 17-year-old girl fighting for her life, police said today.
The collision happened on Holloway Bank in Wednesbury on Friday night.
West Midlands Police said: "A boy and two girls, all aged 17, were taken to hospital, where the lad and one of the girls suffered leg and arm injuries.
"The other girl suffered multiple injuries and remains critically ill. Her condition is feared life threatening at this stage."
Two other teenagers were uninjured.
The silver Vauxhall Astra car involved in the crash failed to stop at the scene and was later recovered in nearby Woden Road South.
Some hours later a 29-year-old man was arrested in the Wednesbury area on suspicion of failing to stop following a road traffic collision and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
Sergeant Bob Hartill, from West Bromwich road policing unit, said: "This is a terrible collision that's badly injured two young people, and left a third girl fighting for her life.
"We urgently need to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, saw the vehicle leaving the scene, or maybe was in Woden Road South a short time later."
